Bundles on Shopify with Ultimate Special Offers

If you want to know how to sell bundles on Shopify, you’ve come to the right place! You can absolutely sell bundles on Shopify, but you need an app to do it. Read on to learn what a bundle deal is, why you might want to run one, how to bundle products, and some tips to make the most of your bundle sales.

What is a Bundle offer?

Bundles can be surprisingly complex, so let’s start simple. The formula for a bundle is:

Buy X products for Y discounted price.

Basically, you take whatever products you want, put them in a group, and sell that group for a discounted price. It’s a great way to increase average order value!

Where things get more complicated is in the various ways a bundle can be set up. You can choose to go two ways with bundles:

    • Curate bundles for your customers.
    • Let customers create their own bundles.

Curating a bundle means you’ve selected the exact products that will be in the bundle. You have total control and the customer can either buy the bundle you’ve put together, or not. That could look like:

    • Buy item A and item B and get 15% off.
    • Buy item C and item D and get $10 off.
    • Buy items C, D, and F for $13.
    • Buy 3 of item G and get 25% off.

Curating bundles has the advantage of allowing you to be strategic in what products you offer. You can pair complementary items, or attach less popular or new products to strong sellers.

When you let customers build their own bundles, you put the power in their hands. You choose the selection of products or collections that are available for the bundle, and customers pick the specifics. This could look like:

    • Buy any 2 items from collection H and get 10% off.
    • Buy an item from collection G and an item from H collection and get 25% off.
    • Buy 3 items from collections J, K, or L and get 15% off.
    • Buy 2 items from a selection of 10 options and get 10% off.

If you’re new to ecommerce or just looking for a simple sale, we recommend putting the bundle together yourself. When you’re ready for something more complicated, give customers the freedom to create their own.

Why run a Bundle deal?

Bundles have so many advantages! Here are just a few reasons to try running bundles on Shopify:

Bundles increase Average Order Value (AOV). Like any good deal, bundles get higher average sales from customers who are already in your store. They take a product customers are already interested in, and incentivize the purchase of additional items. If someone came to your store to buy A, and you’re offering them A and B at a discount, of course they’re going to opt in to such a great deal!

Bundles can help you move merchandise. Include an item you’d like to sell more of in your bundle to help it move faster.

Bundles are an effective but low-pressure upsell. Pair up complementary items and it looks like you’re actually helping the customer, not pressuring them to spend more money.

Bundles are super flexible. You can pick specific items to make a bundle, or you can select collections to include and allow customers to create their own bundles.

How to set up a Bundle offer in Ultimate Special Offers

In order to set up a bundle in Ultimate Special Offers, you need to make some decisions, then set up the offer in the app admin.

Make bundle-related decisions

    • Will you curate the bundle, or will customers be able to create their own bundle from selected products, variants, or collections?
      • If you’re curating the bundle, what items will be in it?
      • If customers can create their own bundles, what products, variants, or collections will they be able to choose from?
      • How many items will be in the bundle?
    • How much will the discount be?
    • Will the discount be a percentage, an amount, or a new price?
      • We recommend that if you’re allowing your customers to assemble their own bundles, that you offer a percentage discount. That way, no matter which items they choose, they same proportional discount applies. If the selection of products available has a variety of prices, a dollar amount discount or overall new price could have an undesirable impact on your profit margins, depending on which items they choose.

Bundle sale tips

    If you’re new to bundles on Shopify, start simple!

    Pick 2 or 3 products and create a simple, straightforward bundle. Once you’ve got one under your belt, start getting more creative and allowing customers to create their own bundles.

    Identify top sellers

    Make use of your sales and traffic data to determine your most popular products – bonus points if you have sufficient sales data from the same period in years prior, as this will help you identify seasonal trends!

    Once you’ve identified two to three of your top sellers, pick products that complement each other in a bundle offer. 

    For example, if you consistently sell warm blankets and couch cushions in the late fall, consider bundling them together at a discounted price to increase your average order volume. 

    Pair similar products together

    Perhaps you don’t have enough data to go off of, or you’ve added a slew of new products to a collection, thus resulting in no sales history on which to base decisions. In this case, we recommend bundling products that serve the same niche or exist in the same collection.

    Create upsells

    Don’t be afraid to create upsells.  For example, if you sell premium coffee beans, try offering a bundle with a larger package size, or multiple packages. 

    Test different groupings

    Run different bundle promotions to see what customers are most interested in.  For example, try bundling different colors or styles of the same product, or complementary products that can be used together.
